Package Inserts

Package inserts are documents contained in the package of a medication and that provide information about the use and effects of the product.

Standard Format for Print Insert:

Name of medicine [package insert]. Place of publication: Manufacturer; Year of publication.

Example:
Lamasil [package insert]. East Hanover (NJ): Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Corp; 1993.
 


Standard Format for Online Insert:

Name of medicine [package insert on the Internet]. Place of publication: Manufacturer; Year of publication [dated cited]. Available from: URL

Example:
Prilosec® (omeprazole) delayed–release capsules [package insert on the Internet]. Wilmington (DE): AstraZeneca, 2012 [revised 2012 Oct; cited 2013 May 20]. Available from: http://www1.astrazeneca-us.com/pi/Prilosec.pdf
