Women's and Gender Studies: Primary Resources

What is a primary source?

In the humanities, a primary source is a source created during the time being studied. For example, primary sources relating to World War II include (but are not limited to) letters, newspaper articles, diaries, and photographs written or created during the war. A secondary source analyzes and interprets the primary source - for example, a newspaper or scholarly journal article published after the war.
