Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) This office was formed to develop funding opportunities for specific diseases, conditions, and injuries. To date, CDMRP has managed more than 94 separate research programs spanning cancer research, military relevant research (such as psychological health, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, Gulf War illness, etc.) and other medical conditions such as autism, neurofibromatosis, and multiple sclerosis. Research funding is achieved through a two-tiered peer review process of competitive proposals. More than 9,000 medical research grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements have received by research institutions. All of these programs are aimed at improving the health of all Americans.

National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences The mission of the NCATS is to catalyze the generation of innovative methods and technologies that will enhance the development, testing and implementation of diagnostics and therapeutics across a wide range of human diseases and conditions. NCATS supports an array of grant programs and in-kind services designed to support this mission. The Center provides intramural and extramural grant funding to support research projects, core facilities, and scientific resources and tools.

National Science Foundation: Find Funding  The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense.  With an annual budget of about $7.0 billion they are the funding source for approximately 20 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America's colleges and universities.
