Linking to Electronic Resources

This guide provides instructions for properly creating links to Farley Library electronic resources in your online classroom materials. Links to electronic library materials must be created and formatted in specific ways to allow all users to access the resources. Unlike most other online sources, the URL in the browser address bar is not sufficient to link to library materials. These tutorials will explain how linking to electronic materials works and how to create stable, functional links to electronic library materials.

Permalinks are stable links to electronic resources which allow multiple users to access the same electronic resource directly without searching for a citation. Permalinks are also sometimes called PURLs (permanent URLs).

An off-campus link is a proxied resource link that allows users to access electronic library materials from off campus.
