1. Visit the English Short Title Catalogue Online.
2. Click "Search the ESTC."
3. Click "Advanced Search."
4. Do a subject search for your topic, and limit the years to 1475-1640. This should ensure that most of your results will actually be in Pollard & Redgrave. Click Go.
5. The number of search results should appear, hyperlinked, under "No. of records." Click it.
6. Look through the results. If any seem useful, click on the hyperlinked title.
7. In the item record, look for the surrogates field. Make sure that Early English books on microfilm is listed, and note the reel and position numbers. Make sure that the reel number (before the :) is between 1 and 1674.
8. Find the guide to this reel, shelved in the reference section.
9. Find the reel in the guide. Note the position on the reel - you will have to move through all of the books ahead of your book to find it.
10. Take the guide back to the Microfilm cabinets in the rear of the first floor library. Find the Pollard & Redgrave drawer with your reel, then locate your reel.
11. Use the microfilm reader to read your reel.
12. When you are finished, place your microfilm reels on the re-shelving cart so that we can count your use.
