Working collaboratively with other library departments, the Technical Services Department works to acquire and provide access to research collections in all formats for the students, staff, and faculty of the Wilkes University community.
The Technical Services Department is comprised of two functional areas:
Library Acquisitions is responsible for acquiring books and non-print materials for the E.S. Farley Library. This is done through various vendors including GOBI, ProQuest Oasis, Amazon, Rittenhouse, and others. This area is also responsible for the financial management and record keeping of library acquisitions fund appropriations.
Cataloging includes shelf preparation, database management, physical processing, monographic copy cataloging, monographic original cataloging, serials cataloging, and arranges for book and thesis binding. The Cataloging area also handles Classic Catalog display options, transfers, withdrawals, typographic errors, incorrect authority records, incorrect headings, and location problems.
The Library uses Wert Bookbinding, Inc. in Grantville, PA for books that need binding and repair.
Graduate Theses: At least one copy of all print theses, dissertations, and special projects must be retained by the Library for the Graduate Theses Collection. The cost of binding this and any required or additional copies is borne by the student and/or the department. Students are not limited to the number of copies they wish to have bound; however, the Library does not make the copies. Theses should be delivered to the Library printed on letter size (8 1/2 x 11") paper, in order, with all required signatures, and with the correct orientation. Please contact Martha Parise (martha.parise@wilkes.edu or ext. 4266) with any questions and for information about pricing and timing of deliveries.
Personal binding: The Technical Services Department can accommodate faculty members who need binding services for personal books that need repair. The cost of binding is borne by the faculty member. Please allow two months for the order to be completed. Please contact Martha Parise (martha.parise@wilkes.edu or ext. 4266) for information about pricing and timing of deliveries.
